About ASSC

The Australasian Students’ Surgical Conference (ASSC) aims to bring together university students and junior health professionals from around Australasia for three days of surgical education and entertainment. In collaboration with Australasian Students’ Surgical Association, ASSC seeks to promote surgical education through skills workshops, keynote speakers and research. We also aim to provide students with fundamental surgical skills which are highly beneficial in their future training. Furthermore, we aim to develop information and resources for surgical societies, to inspire local and international leadership, and to strengthen the global surgical field.

This year, ASSC 2026 will be held in person in Melbourne from the 15th to 17th of May, 2026. It will provide a unique opportunity for students to meet like-minded colleagues across Australasia. Delegates will be able to experience academic breakout sessions, cutting-edge workshops, competitions, and more!

Provisional Delegate support guide can be accessed on our Linktree.

*Note that this guide is constantly being updated and contents are subject to change. A finalised guide will be released closer to the conference date.

Our Aims

Our History

The Australasian Students’ Surgical Conference (ASSC) is ASSA’s flagship event and is perennially considered the largest student-run surgical event in Australasia. With delegates, demonstrators and speakers from all corners of Australia and New Zealand, it is the ideal opportunity for students to meet like-minded individuals and share their passion for surgical excellence, research and advocacy.

In 2019, the ASSC was rebranded the International Surgical Students’ Conference (ISSC) in collaboration with the International Association of Student Surgical Societies (IASSS). This conference (held in Melbourne) was tremendously successful, with international speakers from Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Spain among more addressing a delegation of over 400 people, including students from Fiji and Rwanda to Singapore and South Africa.
